Congratulations Coach Rhonda Rompola

RompolaThe SMU Catholic Community is proud of you Coach Rompola!

From the Daily Campus:

SMU women's head basketball coach Rhonda Rompola established herself as the new leader for most career wins in SMU basketball after defeating the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on January 13th. Sunday's 85-72 victory, broadcast on national television, secured Rompola's 300th career win. In doing so, she surpassed former men's basketball head coach E.O. "Doc" Hayes.

When asked about what the record meant to her personally, Rompola explained, "What is special about 300 wins is they all came here at SMU."

Rompola, an SMU grad, is now in the middle of her 17th season as head coach for the Mustangs. Currently posting a 12-4 overall record, and 2-1 record in Conference USA play, Rompola feels a special bond to the athletes. Since arriving on the Hilltop in 1991 to become the head coach, Rompola has led SMU to a 288-188 mark. During this time she has taken the Mustangs to their first postseason tournament appearance in school history.

You can support Coach Rompola and the Mustangs at their next home game, Thursday night at 7:00 p.m at Moody Coliseum.

SMU Catholic remembers Jim Caswell

Jamescaswellsm James E. Caswell, former vice president for student affairs at Southern Methodist University, spent nearly five decades at SMU as a student, teacher and administrator. Dr. Caswell retired in May 2007. He died Oct. 22 at age 66.  Dr. Caswell was "a pastor at heart, one who made all of SMU his ministry," reflected SMU President R. Gerald Turner at the memorial service celebrating Dr. Caswell's life Thursday. It is estimated that, starting from the time he first worked as a graduate residence hall director, he touched the lives of nearly 40,000 SMU students. The Catholic Community flourishes at SMU thanks in large part to Dr. Caswell's profound understanding of the value of religious life here and his tireless advocacy on its behalf. We are grateful that he always welcomed our presence on campus and affirmed our role in the life of the community. As a token of gratitude, SMU Catholic Campus Ministry will make a donation in his honor to the Jim Caswell Endowment for Leadership Development and Training. For more info, see the SMU website.
